Geothermal

Geothermal heating and cooling systems require less maintenance than other systems. This doesn't mean they never need a little work, however.

There are a couple maintenance procedures that can prolong the life of your system, as well as keep it running with optimal efficiency.

  • Clean filters - Simply have disposable filters replaced every 6 to 12 months. Have your non-disposable filters cleaned at the same time, and your system will continue to run with high efficiency. Dirty filters most noticeable negative effect is more energy consumption.
  • Clean condenser coils - Regular cleaning of coils ensures your home is heated or cooled evenly. Dirty coils hinders the heat pumps ability to move air throughout your home. Check with your HVAC service provider for an optimal cleaning schedule.
  • Ductwork check - Check to make sure air is making to all corners of your home. If not, you may have ductwork leaks. Have your service provider make sure there are no cracks or leaks in ductwork that can lead to system inefficiency.
  • Pipe check - The pipes that run underground are key to your systems ability to provide. They also need check for cracks. Have a service provider regularly make sure no tree roots are putting your pipes in jeopardy, too.

The most common repairs for geothermal systems are related to these routine maintenance checks, and can be provided by your HVAC professional. Staying on top of these maintenance issues is well worth your time and attention, too.
